11/18/24 Community Council Minutes

1. Welcome - Sherry Patton
2. Counseling Report - Rhett Fronk
a. 8th & 9th grade registration; we are making sure we are aligned with the state on
discussing College and Career goals; counselors are enjoying getting to know the
students a little better with one-on-one appointments.
b. Our junior highs may be going to an A day, B day schedule. Most parents and faculty
members feel positive about it. More information to come.
c. Feeling good about our pass rate for 9th grade students. More students are on track
this year than last at this time.

3. Positive Behavior Intervention Plan (PBIS) - Matt Deamer
a. District plan is Elevate28; The entire staff of every school participated in a training
about the plan. The school is in alignment with the plan.
b. Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is part of this Elevate28 plan.
We are developing a solid plan at our school, so we are continuously reminding our
staff how to promote and run the plan with fidelity.

4. School Safety and Digital Citizenship - Alan Rhees (Digital Technology and Learning
Specialist)
a. Web Filtering - WSD primary web filters are iBoss Secure Web Gateways. These are
provided to Weber School District by UEN. Our iBoss gateways are ‘inline’ which
means all of our internet traffic must pass through them. We have two iBoss
Gateways for capacity and redundancy. Our network firewalls are configured as
secondary backup filters in case of a failure of the primary iBoss gateways. Filters:
Drugs, violence, porn, adult content, gambling, guns and weapons; streaming
radio/TV
b. Social Media - Teachers can monitor near real-time Chromebook usage, lock access
to sites, limit tabs, whitelist sites, push content, etc. Blocksi was approved by the
school board early in November. Full district-wide implementation began December
5, 2023. Parent implementation began March 2024.
c. Bark - monitors our students’ Google Workspace accounts.
d. Teaching - On average, children 8 and younger use about two and a half hours of
screen media a day. Media use for tweens and teens has grown exponentially.
e. Digital Literacy - The thoughtful and responsible use of technology to find, evaluate,
utilize, share, and create content. Each school is responsible for Digital Literacy
through the school’s media specialist.

5. School Safety Updates - Harry Short

  • We have a need to increase cameras by about 7
    ● ID’s for all visitors is required
    ● Coming soon: Audio Enhancement with a panic button to PD dispatch, should be
    worn bell to bell by all teachers.
    ● Window coverings and film for ground exterior windows.
    ● Soon: FEMA- incident command system training for admin/safety specialist
    ● In the process: New plunger locks/remove magnets
    ● In the process: Dual door locks for conjoining room doors
    ● FUTURE: 2 lockdown drills a year

 

  • 6. What’s Up Report - Sherry Patton
    a. Our faculty was trained in October by our district legal counsel, Heidi Alder, and the
    Director of Compliance and Policy, Heather Hardy, about how to respond to
    Discriminatory Language and Conduct; students were also given a lesson on,
    “Respecting Others.” We are thankful for our families in the community who share
    the same message.
    b. To conclude the quarter, our National Honor Society organized a Halloween Stomp,
    and it was an absolute blast for our students! It was a fantastic way to wrap up the
    quarter! Our teachers were treated to a soda bar with all the fixings, to show
    appreciation for all their hard work in term 1.
    c. On November 1st, teachers participated in Professional Development at FHS. They
    had dozens of options to attend, depending on their content area and their interests;
    classified employees attended training at RHS.
    d. November 13th - Congrats to our Students of the Month!
    e. LIA - Our amazing LIA group continues to walk to North Ogden Elementary to tutor
    students; they are having a lot of success in this service. LIA also went on a field trip
    to Hill AFB in October.
    f. Intramurals during our lunches have been a huge success. Once a quarter Mr.
    Craynor will hold a tournament and many students enjoy joining in on the
    competition. This has been a great way to foster friendships and school spirit!
    g. Shoutout to our Child Nutrition and our Life Skills teams who have really pulled
    together when it comes to being short staffed. We have hired a new teacher, Rebecca
    Holley, for our Life Skills classroom. We are excited to have her as part of our faculty
    beginning December 3rd.
    h. Panorama Survey Results show an increase in every area, but a substantial increase
    (8%) in Student-Teacher Relationships. This is good news!
